This is probably the best time to buy an electric scooter, especially in India. In recent years, the country has become a seething cauldron of innovation in electric vehicles, with new players emerging, each with their own unique offerings, plus a number of major manufacturers making the switch to electric vehicles.

Another player for a share of the market pie here is Simple Energy. The company, which has raised some investment from a number of investors, plans to raise another $10 million in investments by the end of the second quarter of this year. That said, if the goal is met, the company plans to release its flagship electric scooter called the Mark 2 in May 2021. When (and if) the new scooter hits the market, the company plans to ship it to Bangalore and Delhi, with Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad next in line.

What’s special about the Simple Energe Mark 2? Simply, it has a range of 240 km on a single charge. Powered by an indirect drive motor (i.e. with final drive at the wheel), the scooter reaches 50km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of over 100km/h. Like most premium scooter models today, the Mark 2 will be equipped with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and a host of other modern electronic chips.

Suhas Rajkumar, founder of Simple Energy, expressed his admiration for the future of the company, saying 2021 will be a definite electric year. Expressing his gratitude to investors, chief among them Vel Kanniappan, vice president, global business and financial operations, UiPath, Rajkumar assured that the Mark 2 would definitely see the light of day in 2021.
